I have something new for you to try. It just now worked for me so and this is a similar thing I randomly tried a few months ago.
Please make sure you do not have the "timed" setting enabled for the lights under the "factory" settings.
1. Disconnect your car battery - (I did this as an extra measure)
2. Disconnect the cable harness that plugs into the Head Unit
3. Walk away (I was frustrated so I walked away for 20 minutes - shorter amount could work)
4. Connect battery
5. Turn Key into on position
6. Plugin cable harness on head unit
7. It booted up, side panel lights stayed on
It is likely #1 is not required as I only listed it because this is what I did.
No I did not list #5 and #6 backwards as this is exactly what I did due to frustration with everything else I tried and failed.
